COVER LETTER
Before my time at Merrill, I wanted to go further with my study. I just finished and obtained my bachelor’s degree and I did not know what route to take. I acquired the skills needed to succeed in journalism, but I did not know if it was enough for the career I wanted to have, so I decided to enter the best school in terms of journalism.
During my time at Merrill, I learned a lot. I started to dedicate myself fulltime to the process. I did not understand that it took so many layers to produce a good piece of audio or writing. I realize that I was afraid to think outside the box and push myself to go far beyond my limits. It took me a couple of failures and advice to reach my full potential as a storyteller. Merrill taught me how to find stories in everyday life. Now, I look at the world through a journalist’s eye. I find stories in my everyday life just waiting to be told. Merrill also taught me to never take sides and always look for the truth. Like we always say, there is each side of a story and there is the truth. Always aim for the truth and fact check everything.
My career goal is to be able to travel around the world and tell stories. I am particularly interested in war reporting. I believe there are not enough female journalists present in that particular field. I fully comprehend the danger that comes with this desire, but as a journalist, my first mission is to uncover the truth and to reach beyond the border to shed light to it. After graduation, I would like to continue to sharpen my skills in videography and production. I will be looking for jobs that will allow me to do so, but I am willing to keep my options open.
Sincerely
Ndeye Aminata Ndiaye
